31 Months

Leif just keeps getting bigger and bigger. He is a sweet little fellow who continues to love his naps and his comfort sources (blankets and binki). He also still loves to eat most of the time, but I still have to urge him along sometimes.
He loves to sing- with me or to himself. One of his favorites right now is "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" which he must have picked up from nursery at church, because I never sang it until he started attempting to sing it and do the hand motions and I figured out what he was doing. Now I sing it to him all the time- he usually loves it, but sometimes he tells me "no".
Leif adores his baby sister and knows her full name, but he usually just calls her "the baby" even though when we ask what her name is he says "Heidi Rose".
Here is a photo Austin got of Leif getting up on the counter in the bathroom to get his teeth brushed. Why use the stool that is always sitting there when you can just scale the drawer handles?

In the last couple months, I have been giving the boys "thumbs up" when they do a good job. It took Asher awhile to figure out how to get just his thumb up, but Leif doesn't even try. He insists that his pointer fingers are his thumbs and sticks those up, usually saying "two of them" . . . so at least he can count (sort of).
Something Leif loves right now that I'm not so proud of is potty talk. I won't go into the details of the words he uses, but he says them all the time and thinks he is so funny. I guess that wouldn't bother me so much, but he often calls other people by these names, especially his brother and on occasion, me or Austin.
Overall, though, Leif is quite the pleasant little fellow who loves to laugh and be silly. He was in a bit of a grumpy mood this morning (he loves to tell me when he is grumpy!), but he let me take his picture while he was playing with a toy.

An Outing at the Park

I took the kids on our first real outing by myself since Heidi was born (grocery shopping doesn't count ;) It was a bit overwhelming. I took them to a park in Fort Collins that I haven't been to since Asher was little and I was pregnant with Leif. I had forgotten how big it was and it was super busy, so it was quite the chore trying to keep track of both the boys and haul all our stuff around and keep the sun off of Heidi. She was calm and happy most of the time and only fussed to let me know she was hungry. I told the boys before we got there to stay with each other and stay where I could see them, but in the excitement of all there was to do, they sort of forgot. They were pretty good about coming when I called them, though, so it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't say this is something we will do every day, but it was manageable enough, that I might try to take them to a park at least once a week or so.

One Month

Time goes by so fast! I can't believe Heidi is one month old already. At the same time, it feels like she has just always been a part of our family- she fits in so well. Both of her big brothers are head-over-heels for her and love to look at her and touch her. They get really excited when she looks at them or when she touches them while she is moving her hands around. Heidi sleeps pretty well- waking up twice on most nights to eat, then go right back to sleep. She is very pleasant during the day and is a great eater. She loves to snuggle and be held and started smiling a few days ago. As always, Austin was the first one to get a smile out of her (he did the same thing with both boys). I think its because he makes goofy noises and faces at all of our babies while I'm more likely just to talk to them or sing to them. Heidi has taken a few baths and seems to like them as long as the water is warm enough. When I put her in the water, she looks around and seems to enjoy it.We are definitely going through new-born phase around here with parents feeling sleep deprived, kids getting upset if their needs aren't met right away, and me feeling slightly overwhelmed almost all of the time, but everyone is adjusting pretty well and we love having this sweet girl be part of our family!
