We spent our last day in Canada trying to see some friends and getting last minute things done- which made for a pretty stressful day. We drove all the way up to Wasaga Beach to say goodbye some friends that we don't get to see too often. It was pretty rushed though because we had some errands to run on the way, Austin got pulled over for speeding, and we had to get back to get our COVID tests for the flight. We are glad that we had a little time though.
We were supposed to go to my favorite Mexican restaurant with our favorite friends, but that didn't turn out because of all the hassle with the COVID tests, and we ended up just meeting at Wendy's instead. It was a little disappointing, but still fun to see our friends.
The next morning, Austin dropped us off at my friend's house and she took us to the airport while Austin and Asher got everything wrapped up in Canada and started the long drive with Torben. Here we are at the Toronto airport just as she dropped us off.
Everything at the airport went incredibly smoothly and we got through all the lines and checks quickly with minimal fussing from any of the kids. All the kids, but especially Natalie, were enamored with moving walkways and we had to ride those back and forth to keep her entertained during all the extra time we had. Natalie just loves escalators and was also very pleased every time we had to ride one of those.
All the kids enjoyed watching the airplanes and trying to guess which was ours.
Natalie really liked looking out the window and was excited to be on a plane, but after an hour or so got pretty fussy and refused to take a nap even though she was clearly exhausted. She was a handful on the plane, but the other three kids behaved quite well, so that was helpful. We were very glad when Austin's parents picked us up at the Denver airport (after we had ridden on several escalators and a train to get to the baggage claim).
Asher and Austin got to Colorado about 24 hours later after a very long drive. They made several stops along the way to stretch and let Torben run around. They said he was very well behaved in the car and mostly just slept by Asher's feet in the front of the car.
We are very excited to be back in Colorado and closer to family, but we will miss Canada as well. We are trading the huge lakes and beaches for the mountains and can't wait to do some hiking. We'll miss the cooler weather and all of our friends, but we love our new home and are glad to have family nearby. Goodbye Canada! We will miss you, but we are ready for a new adventure back home.
