Heidi is Six!

Happy birthday to this beautiful six-year-old girl!

We started off the day as usual with chocolate waffles! Actually, the day started with Heidi waking up early in her brother's room because we let her have a sleep over with them as part of the birthday fun (Natalie was very good about sleeping alone in the girls' room in her crib). Heidi opened a couple of her presents last night as well to give her more time to appreciate and enjoy each gift rather than opening them all up at the same time. She talked to her grandparents in the morning so they could watch her open their gift.

She got another American Girl doll from Austin's parents (talk about spoiled!) and a scooter from my dad (she has been wanting one for years).

Heidi laughs with her eyes closed when she thinks something is very funny or when she is embarrassed :)
All the kids wanted to be involved in the cake making. It took twice as long, but we had all day because we cancelled school and I had more patience than usual.

The boys were eager to teach Heidi to play Minecraft and she was excited to learn, but it didn't keep her attention for too long.
Trevor and Natalie were just excited to play with the balloons.

In the afternoon, a friend from a few houses down came over to play with the kids. They ran around for awhile then had a water balloon fight on the trampoline. Heidi wanted hamburgers for dinner, so Austin cooked them then we had cake and the kids watched Sleeping Beauty- picked by Heidi of course!

A walk to the park

A few days ago, my car needed to be serviced for a bunch of different things, so we had to drop it off at the dealership for about 4 hours. I got the first appointment of the day hoping that would speed things up, but it didn't really. Sitting in the waiting room is terrible for so long with so many kids, so we went on a walk to a park that is about a 45 minute walk away (longer if you are intentionally going on all the back paths just to pass the time). The kids loved stopping to watch the birds and run up and down along the trail or sometimes off the trail.

The boardwalk was their favorite part because the stroller I was pushing Natalie in made what the kids thought was a train noise. They also enjoyed testing their balance.
When we got to the park, no one was there, but tons of people came and went over the course of a few hours. The kids loved having unlimited playground time and snacks on a picnic blanket. Toward the end, I read to the older kids for about 45 minutes while the youngest two played nearby. Natalie kept herself completely entertained the whole time on this slide.

Heidi loves helping Natalie at the park and spent a lot of her time helping Natalie get on and off things whether Natalie wanted the help or not.

Daffodils and Bubbles

The Daffodil fields are in bloom! This has been a tradition since I discovered this field when we first moved to Canada. I always bring Heidi here for birthday pictures, but we came a little early this year when my friend let me know they were in bloom. Ontario is still under a stay at home order and its been soggy and rainy lately so we haven't been out as much as we'd like to and really haven't seen people in real life except at the store or when the kids play with their neighbor friend. So my friend brought her kids and met us at the daffodil fields for a quick play time. Of course the boys were fascinated by the creek and they couldn't keep themselves from picking a few daffodils (Heidi wanted one of each type).

My friend's daughter brought bubbles which were a huge excitement in addition to the flowers.

Trevor decided it was exciting to throw the few daffodils he picked into the creek and watch them float under the bridge. Too bad because I wanted them, but he enjoyed it.
The kids also ran all over in a nearby park and played on the playground for a bit, but it was still pretty chilly, so we only stayed for about an hour.  We are looking forward to it warming up a bit and for this stupid lockdown to get over!
