Canada Day at Mono Cliffs

Austin had the day off work for Canada Day, so after swimming lessons we took the kids on a hike at a place called Mono Cliffs. We've gone on this hike once before, but that was the first summer we moved here so we thought it would be nice to take the kids again. Its a nice little hike- only about two or two and a half miles in a loop with some uphill, but nothing like hiking in the mountains that we are used to. Ranger Leif was good at spotting wild life for us. He found this porcupine up in the tree and spotted a hawk for us too.

Most of the hike was under a canopy of trees, but there was a part of the trail that was pretty sunny. The kids were dragging a little on this part, but I named it Butterfly Trail because there were little orange and black butterflies and big white and black butterflies all over the place. One even landed on Austin's shoe when he stopped to look at the map.

I carried Natalie in our hiking carrier most of the way, but she got down and ran around for awhile. She wasn't interested in getting back in until she saw me carrying Trevor in a piggy-back ride (Asher was carrying the empty carrier) and suddenly decided she must get back in the carrier and have me carry her again.

She was very fascinated with the sticks she found.
Natalie and Trevor even had a stick was, which wasn't the best idea since they were both tired and grumpy.
