Grandpa's Garden Boxes

We are starting to wrap up some of our subjects in school this week, so we could easily adjust our schedule to make time to go over to Austin's parents' house to help his dad move gardening soil into his backyard gardening boxes. The soil was delivered later than expected, so we got a late start and it was pretty warm on the first day. We only got 2 of the 5 boxes filled by lunch time and it was getting too warm by then, so we called it quits for the day. We started much earlier the next day and it was also overcast and drizzling, so it was much cooler. That, and having a good routine established already helped us get a lot more done that day. We filled up the three other boxes and dumped the rest of the dirt in a corner of the yard for pumpkin growing.

All of the kids were eager to help and everyone did something, but Asher and Leif were definitely the most helpful. They both shoveled and carted wheelbarrows, and Asher helped Grandpa and I get the wheelbarrows up the ramps while Leif helped level the soil with a rake. The younger three did some work as well, but also played quite a bit.
