Spring on the Farm

 

 We visited a local farm this week, which both of the girls were extremely excited about. I've taken the two older boys here a few times before we moved to Canada, but I think Heidi was too young to remember going. Austin's mom joined us and the kids had fun seeing the animals and pretending to drive the tractors.

Heidi was super excited to see horses. She is dying to ride horses, but I'm still trying to figure out how to make that happen since we don't know anyone who owns them.

We also saw ponies, cows, sheep, chickens, pigs, turkeys, and goats.

The most exciting part of the visit was that two baby goats were born while we were there. We didn't actually see either of the births, but we saw the kids within minutes of being born and watched them trying to stand while their mom cleaned them up and took care of them.

Snow Day

 We have been jealously watching all the snow being dumped on Utah and other parts of the country this winter wishing that we had gotten that much. We had been planning to take our spring break this week to visit family in Utah and Idaho and go skiing, but had ultimately decided to delay it (yet again) because of the bad roads across Wyoming. The kids were disappointed (especially Leif), but were happily surprised yesterday to wake up to an unexpected outpouring of snow! I took Torben out on a walk in the morning while it was still snowing, not expecting it to be too deep, but soon found that it was about a foot deep! He had fun running everywhere, but since it was still snowing a lot, I cut our walk shorter than usual.

The kids and I took a snow day because it took over an hour to clear all the heavy snow from our driveway and sidewalks and of course the kids waned to play in it as much as possible. In the afternoon, we went sledding and everyone had a ton of fun.

We wrapped the afternoon up with hot chocolate and card games while I made broccoli soup and homemade bread for dinner. Everyone had a very fun day and was exhausted by the end (or maybe that was just me ;)
